Solidarity with Iași County Library in Romania

7 July 2010 A+AA-

Bogdan Ghiurco, a librarian in the Iași County Library in Romania, turned to his colleagues from the Global Libraries initiative around the world for help.

The building where the library is hosted will be thoroughly renovated and most likely used for another purpose. The local authorities have not provided new premises and Bogdan fears that the library may close.

In order to raise awareness about the problem, Bogdan has started an online initiative seeking support for his library.

You can help to attract attention to the problem of the Iași County Library by filming a video with a special message, as follows: "Biblioteca Județeană Iași merită un sediu" (translated: "Iași County Library deserves a proper location"). Write the message in Romanian on a sheet (or sheets) of paper to make it well visible and film yourself in front of a local attraction holding the message and saying it out loud in your native language. After shooting the video, send it (or a link to a place where you have published it online) to Bogdan at the following e-mail address: bogdan.ghiurco@gmail.com.

Our colleagues from the Global Libraries - Romania initiative have already published their video on YouTube. If you publish one too, we would be interested to know about that and publish a link to your video on our portal. Please send your video or a link to it to Silvina Furnadzhieva, Portal Associate/Translator in the Glob@l Libraries - Bulgaria Program, to s.furnadzhieva@glbulgaria.net.

Here you can download one such video sent to us by the chitalishte library in the Tsaratsovo village, Plovdiv district.
