Representatives of Bulgaria’s Library Community Participated in the World Library and Information Congress of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA)

The Glob@l Libraries Bulgaria Program supported the participation of 18 representatives of Bulgaria's library community in IFLA's annual General Conference and Assembly (www.ifla.org), which took place from 23 to 27 August 2009 in Milan, Italy.

The district coordinators of the Glob@l Libraries Bulgaria Program, representatives of the academic community - professors in library studies from Sofia University St Kliment Ohridski and from the State University of Library Studies and Information Technologies, members of the Bulgarian Library and Information Association, as well as representatives of the Glob@l Libraries Bulgaria Program Management Unit took part IFLA's biggest international event.

IFLA's conference agenda included the following thematic areas - new trends in the development of library and information activities; modern practices and issues in the functioning of libraries; challenges to the library profession. The development of information technology and the new expectations of library users call for a change in the approach of library and information services, and in the presentation of libraries - these themes were among the main focus areas of the event. IFLA's conference also offered a large space for presenting exhibit stalls of publishers from around the world, as well as of companies, offering cutting-edge technological solutions for contemporary libraries.

Members of the Bulgarian conference delegation had a series of meetings with colleagues from around the world and participated in the panel discussions of the conference. The Bulgarian delegation also took part in the election of IFLA's new president.
