An official ceremony in the Karlovo City Library celebrated the signing of a quadruple memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Culture, the United Nations Development Programme, Karlovo Municipality and the libraries in Karlovo, Kalofer and Banya, which are proposed by the Program Board of Glob@l Libraries - Bulgaria for inclusion in the 2009 Phase of the program. This was announced by the press centre of Karlovo Municipality. The deputy mayor of Karlovo Municipality eng. Georgi Karamchev, the director of "Social and Humanitarian Activities" Office Pepa Shupleva, the Plovdiv District Coordinator of Glob@l Libraries - Bulgaria Program Zlatka Ivanova, the director of City Library Karlovo - Sofia Banovska, the presidents of chitalishte boards in Kalofer and Banya, and representatives of institutions which support the program attended the ceremony.
The District Coordinator Zlatka Ivanova explained the objective of the program. It will give the traditional library a chance to turn into a community centre giving its visitors broader options for using contemporary technology through the Internet and ICT. The program's duration is three and a half years and it aims not only to aid libraries but also to give the chance of using its contemporary technological resources to a broader range of library users.
The municipality deputy mayor Georgi Karamchev extended his wishes of success under the program to the three libraries in Karlovo municipality which will be provided with computers, scanners and printers to be used by readers.
