The delivery and installation of computers and peripherals under the Glob@l Libraries - Bulgaria Program started on 15 November 2010.
455 public libraries, among which 410 chitalishte, 27 regional, 12 city and 6 municipal ones in 234 municipalities all over Bulgaria are included in Stage 2009 of the program. 105 of the libraries are located in settlements with population of less than 1,000 people.
After the delivery and installation of the equipment, public libraries shall provide free Internet access and usage of computers to their patrons. Thus libraries shall increase their potential of community and information centres, bringing the people closer to the resources of the global information society.
Libraries shall enrich the services that they offer and turn into places for life-long learning where new knowledge and skills are acquired, and where an entrepreneural spirit is nurtured; into development hubs and a bridge for communication between different people and social groups; into partners in the education of children, pupils and students.
Local communities shall have the opportunity to create electronic content through which they shall save the local cultural traditions and customs; make decisions on the basis of informed choice; participate fully in the political and social life; develop their creative potential and save their cultural identity.
