Free legal information at public libraries

Legal information at public libraries
The Global Libraries – Bulgaria Foundation implements a project under the title “Legal information at public libraries”, funded by the U.S. Embassy in Sofia, Bulgaria.

The project pilots a new e-service at the libraries to enhance their capacity as information and training centers in local communities.

The project is implemented in partnership with the Students’ Legal Clinic at the Law Faculty of University of National and World Economy.

The activities under the project are aimed at improving the access to justice for Bulgarian citizens by raising their legal awareness and legal literacy.

Under the project, an online platform for receiving requests and inquires has been set up. Though the platform, citizens receive response to their requests formulated by the students at the Legal Clinic. Citizens get guidance on the possible ways to solve their cases – on their own, through a lawyer’s service or through free legal assitance in accordance with the respective requirements.

The project is implemented in cooperation with the regional libraries in Blagoevgrad, Kyustendil, Vratsa, Vidin, the municipal library in Smolyan and the chitalishte library in Botevgrad.
The pilot project activities were implemented from February 1, 2017 to May 30, 2017.
